The Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw, along with its nine subordinate district prosecutor’s offices, in terms of its jurisdiction, cover the area inhabited by more than 1.5 million people in total. The basic objective of the Prosecutor’s Office is the protection of law and order and supervision over the prosecution of offences. To meet this objective, prosecutors conduct or supervise preparatory proceedings in criminal cases and perform the function of public prosecutors before courts. Prosecutors also institute actions in penal and civil-law cases and appeal against unlawful administrative decisions to the court. The Regional Prosecutor’s Office in Warsaw conducts the greatest number of penal proceedings in Poland. It also has exclusive jurisdiction over the cases relating to stock exchange offences in Poland.

Information for Victims of Crime

A victim of an offence, formally called a wronged person, is a natural or legal person whose legal interest has been directly violated or threatened by an offence. This means that for a person to be considered a victim his or her individual interest protected by the law must be violated. Such interests include, for example, health, freedom, bodily integrity, security in transportation, dignity or property. A victim can also be a state, self government or welfare institution, even if does not have a status of a legal person.
